WHY DO WE NEED FLUORIDE?

Keeping your teeth healthy requires more than just daily brushing and flossing. During a routine hygiene appointment you might be surprised when our hygienist asks you if you would like a FLUORIDE treatment. Adults need FLUORIDE as much as children to prevent tooth decay.
FLUORIDE is a mineral that helps protect the teeth in two ways. Acid created by the bacteria in plaque dissolves or demineralizes tooth enamel. If the teeth have been damaged from acid, FLUORIDE collects in the damaged areas and begins hardening the enamel. FLUORIDE is very beneficial in strengthening teeth and preventing cavities but can not restore teeth that have decay (cavities) already.
A list of reasons to have a FLUORIDE treatment done:
Decreased salivary flow
□ Protect root surface
□ To reduce tooth sensitivity
Orthodontic treatment□ High risk for developing decay
White spots
□ Undergoing head and neck radiation therapy
□ Poor oral hygiene
Call us today to schedule your next appointment with our amazing hygienists Lauren and Bernadette located Tamarac FL. After your cleaning and FLUORIDE appointment you probably will leave our office much more motivated to maintain optimum daily brushing and flossing.

You're in for a surprise! What one of our patients said about us!

"The outside of the building is very deceptive, the elevator is older and the building is pink, however, when you step inside the office you are in for a big, pleasant surprise! It is modern, clean and very up-to-date. The staff is pleasant and ready to address whatever questions you may have. Stacy is my personal guide through my dental procedures..which are many and varied, because I had not been to a dentist in a very long time..and she not only explains every step to me and goes over each plan of action we are going to take, but she gives me options..and I really like that. The entire staff including the dentist and his assistants are caring and patient. I could not be more pleased. If you are a "chicken" and have been putting off taking care of your dental health..don't wait another minute. You have found YOUR dental office!"

What is Plaque ?

WHAT IS PLAQUE?

Plaque is a bio-film of bacteria and mucous that grows on your teeth. Some of the bacteria in the plaque make acids, which decay your teeth. Other kinds of bacteria in the plaque make toxins, which cause gum disease. The easiest and most effective way to remove the plaque from your teeth is to brush and floss! When the plaque is hardened on your teeth it is called tartar or calculus. Then you need a Dental Hygienist or Dentist to remove it by “scaling” the tartar off. Our team is here to educate our patients and give them a healthy smile! Come in or call our office today to make an appointment with one of our hygienists!

Effects of Fruit Juice Drinks on Tooth Enamel

We all know that it is important to brush our teeth regularly, preferably after every meal. We also should try and limit the frequency of sweet foods and drinks. It is this constant attack that can overwhelm the defenses of our teeth and cause tooth decay.
Apple juice, like all other fruit juices, is both acidic and sweet. In other words, the acid will soften the enamel of the teeth while the sugar will give an energy source for the caries bacteria, so fruit juice will help you get cavities.

It's a bad idea to let kids drink juice all the time, especially from the bottle. A glass or two is of coarse fine and has lots of other health benefits.

So if you would like to bring your child too check if they have cavities please call Dr.Oneil's office for an appointment 954-720-9570

A Brighter Smile

One thing people notice when you meet them is their smile. A whiter, brighter smile can make an impression. Normal things you do on a daily basis can stain and darken your teeth such as dinking coffee, cola, wine and smoking. Although keeping up with your hygiene routine every 3-6 months helps prevent decay and other problems you can't be guaranteed it will keep a white smile. Why not brighten your smile in just a few hours and see a difference as you walk out the door. Recently, a patient of ours completed the Zoom and walked out with a permanent grin on his face. He said,"Wow! I can't believe that in just a few hours my teeth could be several shades lighter!" At Dr. O'Neil's office you can experience the difference with Zoom! Along with Zoom we will have whitening trays for you to take home at no charge to continue the treatment at home and at your own time. Call us today to schedule your Zoom at
Dr. O'Neil's office in Tamarac, Fl. Hope to see you and your new smile!
